Report: ‘Halloween’ Sequel Shooting This Fall for October 2020 Release
After rumors began swirling that David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis might be returning for a follow-up to 2018’s Halloween, it now appears that plans are indeed in motion for a 2020 sequel from Blumhouse Productions. Collider has reported that shooting for the new Halloween film is set to begin this September with a scheduled release date of October 16, 2020.
Details are scarce as of this moment, and Blumhouse is apparently remaining tight-lipped. However, reports suggest that the script has already been completed by David Gordon Green, who will likely also return to the director’s chair. Joining Jamie Lee Curtis once again will reportedly be Judy Greer and Andi Matichak to round out the Strode family. No word as of yet who might be wearing the mask this time around in the role of “The Shape”, or whether John Carpenter will return to score the film.
The sequel is referred to in the article as “Halloween 2“, but one can only speculate as to whether that will be the actual title, since this would be the 3rd in the franchise bearing that name (Maybe it should be called “Halloween 3“, considering the fact that the last one was a sequel to the 1978 original?). At any rate, after the box office results of the previous entry it was only a matter of time before Michael Myers would return home to Haddonfield for more murder and mayhem.
One more thing to consider…unless something changes, the new Halloween will likey be going head-to-head against the planned Saw film which is scheduled for release the following week on October 23rd. Hopefully neither movie will suffer as a result, but if both remain on schedule it will certainly be one hell of a Halloween season for horror.
