Get Ready for 'SAMHAIN': Upcoming Indie Horror from Gravestone Films

The 2020 Halloween season is shaping up to be an exciting one for horror movie fans. With at least two heavy hitters scheduled to land next October in the form of new Saw and Halloween sequels, it’s important to note that some of the best in the genre often come from independent production companies. One such film on the horizon for a fall 2020 release is the brand new horror-comedy, Samhain.

Currently in pre-production, Samhain is the brainchild of independent film company Gravestone Films and writer Scotty McCoy. The story centers around a man named Justin Freed, who suffers a mental breakdown during the festival of Samhain and is committed to the “Skook Asylum”. Years later, in the days before Halloween, Justin escapes and seeks to hunt down and kill his estranged daughter, Sami. In an attempt to stop Justin in his tracks, Sami’s mother Kathryn returns to town to try and learn about Justin’s experiences during his confinement. Meanwhile, Justin has taken on a second personality as an evil clown called “Rellik”. Without realizing the danger that awaits, four video game nerds confront Rellik in order to protect their “princess” and become real-life heroes, as the psychotic clown sets out to find his family and kill anyone who gets in his way.

Samhain is scheduled to shoot from August 10, 2019 through October 27, 2019, with a planned release for October 2020. The cast will consist of local actors and actresses from the Schuylkill County area in Pennsylvania. Directorial duties will be handled by Gabriele Rolland, who will also be providing special makeup effects for the project.

The finished film will be available to stream on Amazon Prime, and is also slated for a limited theatrical run. Gravestone Films, the Pennsylvania-based production company owned by Samhain scribe Scotty McCoy, is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for wider theatrical release and additional streaming options. These will hopefully include Regal and AMC theaters, HBO, Hulu, Shudder, and Netflix.
