‘The House by the Cemetery’ Gets Blue Underground’s 4K Treatment for New Blu-ray

Blue Underground is expanding its lineup of spectacular 4K restorations with a brand new Blu-ray edition of Lucio Fulci’s 1981 horror film The House by the Cemetery. Following in the footsteps of Fulci’s Manhattan Baby, Zombie, and The New York Ripper, the label has revealed via Twitter and Facebook that this new master is looking “absolutely GORE-geous”.
The House by the Cemetery tells the story of the Boyle family, who moves from their New York City apartment into a “quaint” home in New England which hides a terrifying secret. In the basement resides an undead Nazi surgeon named Dr. Freudstein who keeps himself alive by way of fresh human victims. As the bodies pile up, Dr. Norman Boyle sets out to uncover the events surrounding the house’s dark secret and put an end to Freudstein’s killing spree.
Over the years,The House by the Cemetery has come to be known as the conclusion of Fulci’s “Gates of Hell” trilogy which also includes City of the Living Dead (1980) and The Beyond (1981). All three films feature Catriona MacColl as the female lead. The House by the Cemetery also stars Paolo Malco and Giovanni Frezza, with appearances by Dagmar Lassander, Ania Pieroni, Carlo De Mejo, and Daniela Doria. It contains all the trademark bloodshed typical of Fulci’s horror era and of course includes a brief cameo by the “big chief person himself”. Fulci keeps the blood flowing and the atmosphere rich in this perfect blend of ghost story, slasher, and zombie film.
