Dario Argento’s Original ‘Suspiria’ Headed to 4K UHD from Synapse Films
Synapse Films will be making their 4K Blu-ray debut this November with Dario Argento’s 1977 horror classic Suspiria. The indie label has announced a brand new edition which will include the film on a 4K UHD disc and a bonus Blu-ray consisting of special features. The UHD will be sourced from the same exclusive 4K master that was used for the company’s 2017 Blu-ray.
In case anyone is unfamiliar (shame on you!), Suspiria is the story of a young American ballet student named Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper), who finds herself entangled in a nightmare while attending a prestigious German dance academy. The school does not only practice the art of the dance, however, and Suzie finds herself in increasing danger as she attempts to uncover the truth about who is running the place. Famous for its colorful cinematography, bizarre imagery, and pounding score by Goblin, Suspiria is considered by many to be among Argento’s best work.
Suspiria has already been released on UHD in other regions, but the US disc from Synapse will be the first to feature an HDR upgrade. There has also been some discussion about which color scheme is correct since the colors seem to vary between releases, some pushing more toward a greenish tint. Synapse’s 4K master was supervised by the film’s original cinematographer, so the upcoming UHD release should easily represent the best-looking version to date.
The new set is scheduled to hit the street on November 19, 2019. You can pre-order your copy right here.
